Oral hygiene’ techniques

The appropriate duration for tooth-brushing is 4-6 minutes, probably only its regularity (twice a day) is more important. It does matter how to move the brush. In the followings, a brief summary of the appropriate way of tooth-brushing can you read! It is valid to all techniques of tooth-brushing that the brush should be held loosely and teeth should be rather massaged than scrubbed and scoured.

The external surface:

Concentric cleaning: This procedure can be applied at the outside surface of teeth. It is important to massages not only the teeth but the gum, so pellicle can also be removed from gums.

The internal surface:

Sweeping motion: This is a procedure for cleaning the inside surface of teeth. Place the brush on the gum at the molars and start sweeping towards the occlusal surface. Incisors and eye-teeth (6 front teeth) can be cleaned by up-and-down motion. The brush now moves from the gum towards the occlusal edge.

The occlusal surface:

Clean the occlusal surface with a concentric or scouring motion but do not forget that power does not count. Do not press the toot-brush on your teeth too strongly.

Open tooth surface:

Do not forget the open surface of the hindmost tooth (which does not touch other teeth), moreover if you have gap, the two surfaces beside the gap is considered as open tooth surface and these teeth also require cleaning. They must be cleaned around as they can be reached.
