In this case our dentist builds up the tooth with light-curing filling material. This treatment is called edge restoration. With this method in many cases the crown can be avoid. By children the fracture of frontal teeth are not uncommon, but by us the crown making is not recommended because of the broad pulp-cavity. The perfect solution for us is also the edge restoration.
The indication of edge restoration:
- broken tooth due to accident – especially in childhood
- if the loss of tooth material is less than 50%
- if you don’t want crown on your tooth, but you would like to have more beautiful smile
The edge restoration is counterproposal if:
- more than 50% of the fractured incisor tooth is missing
- the incisor tooth is weak, the structure cannot be durable, because it can easily fracture again
The steps of edge restoration:
After the injection of anesthesia the surrounding area of the tooth will fully immovable, so you won’t feel anything during the treatment. The dentist removes the decayed parts and the old fillings, and then composes a base with conditioning and bond material to the tooth. The structure in this case also happens with layering technique. Dentine colored composite material gets into the deeper parts, then after the further layers the surface will cover with enamel color, thus we can achieve perfect aesthetic effect. We lighten the single layers with polymerization lamp in order to the perfect bond, and then we polish the bonded material.
